Summary: The Crimean Tatars are descendants of the Mongols who swept through eastern Europe in the thirteenth century. The first Crimean Tatars to arrive in Romania did so in the 900s. They came as settlers, but others came 300 years later as conquerors, part of the Golden Horde. There were waves of Crimean Tatars settling in Dobruja, a region that straddles modern Romania and Bulgaria. This is the same region where more Crimean Tatars fled when the Soviet Union exiled them in 1944. Today more Crimean Tatars are in Romania than Russia, and Dobruja is the center of their community.
Obstacles: All Crimean Tatars are Sunni Muslims. There are not yet any disciples of Christ found among them in Romania, so they will need to hear the gospel from a different culture.

Summary: Romania was called Dacia by the Romans. Since Roman times, Jews have been in Europe. During the Middle Ages, Jews went to Romania from elsewhere in Europe, and during the Renaissance, more arrived, fleeing the Spanish Inquisition. Today's Romanian Jews potentially carry Romanian, Spanish, Greek, Italian and Middle Eastern heritage. However, until World War I, not all were Romanian citizens. During World War II, the government sought to protect them from the Nazis. Since World War II, many, especially the younger ones, have emigrated. There is a Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania, which publishes a newspaper.
Obstacles: Reluctance to follow Christ is largely because of historic antisemitism on the part of traditional Christians. Emigration is reducing the number of Jews in Romania. The younger generation's ignorance of Judaism prevents them from having a foundation for the gospel.
How reach: Younger Jews may be more open to the gospel because they are more secular; therefore, coffee house evangelism may work. Literature, radio/TV broadcasts, and friendship evangelism for Jews may also be useful.
Pray for church: Pray the church in Romania would seek to win Jews in hopes of starting a movement to Christ. Pray that the church in Romania would publicly apologize for its anti-Semitism.

Summary: The name Nogai means "dog" in Mongol and may come from the Emir Nogay of the Golden Horde and the territory he ruled. After Emir's death in 1300, two large, loosely grouped tribes of Nogai Tatar evolved: the "lesser" Nogai of the north and the "greater" Nogai of the south. The Nogai Tatar are part of a very small population of Tatar people living in Romania. Larger groups are scattered across Russia, with the majority living on the Volga steppe region between the Terek and Kuma Rivers and in the Crimea.
Obstacles: Today, virtually all of the Nogai profess to be Sunni Muslim. Islam is part of their identity. To them, following Christ means switching to a foreign religious system.
How reach: Islam literally means "submission," and a Muslim is "one who submits." Perhaps someone can convince the Nogai Tatar people that Christ offers the only way to true submission.
